What an Honor!

10 x 8 Oil on Canvas

Remember this painting of Grandson Jed? I posted it in April as a study for a larger painting. Still haven't painted it larger but worked some more on this one and entered it in the Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League Special Members Show at Montreat College in Montreat, N.C. Our beautiful great niece Morgan is a junior there so I thought it would be fun to hang in the Hamilton Gallery on campus! I had no idea an award would be forthcoming and didn't even attend the reception last weekend! The judge was Beverly Kies, a pastel artist from Hendersonville, N.C. Thank you Beverly! I am humbled and thrilled. The exhibit will be on display through September 29.

  4. Thank you! Thank you, Cindi! Another one painted with oil and love! This has been a break-though summer for me. Not having entered shows or competitions in a while, these awards are the confidence booster I needed to keep going with portraits! Sooooo glad you like the painting!

  13. Rosemary, What a delightful portrait. You did start with a perfect pose, BUT, your rendering made this an exciting pose. From the expression on his face to the overhead lighting which makes such an unusual and captivating mood, this is a delight for all viewing it. I can see why it was an easy decision for the judge to place the Big Blue right where it is. All the features: in the face, the ears, the hands, shoulders, directions of arms, the soft folds of shirt, strokes in & directions of hair, the "shine" of the metal--simply Fantastic! You've captured this young man's sparkle!!!!! Every time I look back at it, I smile. What an honor to view it on your blog. Thanks for sharing. If I can get to paint like you, I will be soooooo satisfied. Ruth Bodycott
