This One's For Me

30" x 15" Oil on Hardboard

Years ago we found two triangular pedestels - probably fern stands - while on a trek through antique stores in Eastern Tennessee. Never got around to properly refinishing them so they have been in and out of the attic or tucked in a dark corner of one room or another. Now I'm finding they make good stands for still life arrangements. One has a marble (broken) top and the other one a smooth top of wood.

A blank wall in the dining room begged for a vertical piece so I painted this one using "faux" fruit to enhance that space. Framed and hanging, it didn't feel "finished" so back on the easel it went. I'm still not happy with the background but tonight it's back on the wall...at least for the time being.

  2. Beautiful, Rosemary. Backgrounds are sometimes harder to do that the subject matter itself. However, this one works very well.

  3. Rosemary, Spectacular! The background is really GOOD as it is. I think it is subtle enough to compliment & complement; varied enough in just the right amount; perfect color.
And, the still life is astoundingly outstanding! Love every nuance that you have here.

  4. This piece is lovely, Rosemary--great composition using a vertical format and proportions that can be difficult to succeed with. You have done a super job with the varying textures, and I love the colors--it would be perfect in our living room! I know what it feels like to be unsatisfied with some aspect of one's work--you are smart to hang it while you consider options.

Sorry it's taken so long getting back to the blog! The seasonal move from NC to Fla, ISP problems and lots of art to get out by Christmas have kept me hopping! I love this season but it is hectic to say the very least!

Your lovely comments touch me and I appreciate each one of you more than I can say! Wishing each of you a very Merry Christmas and a most creative new year!

    Thanks again!
