Strawberries in a Cup

12" x 16" Oil on Stretched Canvas
Enough landscapes for a while - back to still life and portraits!  Recently on a Sunday afternoon I selected  a few favorite pieces of glassware  and created "set ups" here in the studio for a photo shoot.  Even with lighting being less than ideal, some of the photographs came out pretty good.  This painting was  started from life and finished using a photo.  Our kitchen has strawberry accents and there was space on the wall just waiting for it!

  1. Absolutely delightful and I'll bet this looks amazing in your kitchen. I love the blossoms! What are they? Do strawberry plants blossom before they product fruit? (I honestly don't know...) I've also always wanted a pretty little teacup and saucer set like this one but alas, no point. I don't drink hot tea! Wouldn't want coffee to stain the fine china.

    1. Thank you Sherry! Strawberry plants do have delicate white 5 petal blossoms. This little cup and saucer first served as containers for a Teleflora Gift from a dear friend a few years ago, thus smiles and memories are painted into this piece. As you know from morning visits to your blog, I drink coffee from a large mug! :-)

  5. WOW, Rosemary! Not only are the strawberries lucious enough to want to eat, but the lace is impeccably painted... each stitch is in the right place. Beautiful.

  11. Thanks Nancy - I'm kind of stuck on that background with two pieces underway with similar ones. I'm glad you see and like the red!
