Water Ballet

                         36" x 24" Oil on Prepared Masonite

The American White Ibis is a common long -legged wading bird usually seen feeding as a group probing mud or lawns for insects or crustaceans with their long down-curved bills .  They nest in trees.

The Ibis is the mascot for the University of Miami chosen because of its legendary bravery during hurricanes - the last sign of wildlife to take shelter before a hurricane hits and the first to reappear once the storm has passed.

Here in southwest Florida we can usually see these birds from any window.  Not a pretty bird but very graceful in flight.  This ibis  taking flight at Lakes Park in Fort Myers seemed to be splash-dancing.
