Frank and Me
10 x 8 - oil on canvas
This is a painting of my wonderful husband using a reference photo from an outing last spring. He wasn't concerned about how I painted his face but he wanted that cap to look just right! Aren't men funny! Anyway, the legs in the reflection of the sunglasses are mine and thus the title. I painted this last week, and Monday it was juried into the "Arts of March" show at the Cape Coral Art League Center, 516 Cultural Park Boulevard, Cape Coral, and will hang through April 5! The show judge is watercolorist Joan Klutch and the opening reception takes place this evening! Getting in is an honor and I'm eager to see the show!

The portrait of your husband is just wonderful and so interesting with the sunglasses. Love all the colors in his face. Congrats on it getting accepted into the show. So happy for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Barb! It was past time I did a new portrait of Frank! I'm glad he got into the show! I'm doing a mini-series with the sunglasses...they are easier than eyes! :-) and they kinda create a sense of mystery.
ReplyDeleteDear Rosemary ,This is classy , excellent portrait .
ReplyDeleteThis portrait is wonderful, Rosemary!the colours, the shades, and your husband can be proud about his cap!
ReplyDeleteRishi and Sylviane - thank you both so very much! These comments from the two of you mean a lot to me!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Rosemary. This should have also been an award winner. It's a great painting, face, cap, sun glasses....and, legs! Great job, also, on that light hitting his chin and neck. Let us know how the reception and exhibit went.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely wonderful, Rosemary. I love the shadow on the face created by the cap, and then the beautiful passages of bright sunlight on the face. Fantastic!!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning painting. First I thought it to be a photograph...Nice work and I am always waiting to see whats next in your kitty! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to both you and your husband for being accepted into this show, Rosemary. Your portrait of your husband is so wonderful! He reminds me a bit of Hal Holbrook, I think it is.
ReplyDeleteRosemary...excellent portrait. You did his cap perfectly, but also his whole self. Bravo.
ReplyDeleteRosemary, no way is this a painting! Did you get the real photo mixed up with the oil painting photo in your files? Just kidding.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely amazing. When I was looking at the list of blogs I follow, this thumbnail caught my attention and held it riveted. Had to investigate further. This is strikingly wonderful. Congratulations on getting accepted into the show; I know it is a winner. What happened last night? Was it named one?
If it wasn't, there had to be some super highly outstanding pieces submitted.
When I look at this, I just want to touch and feel the material(s). They are so soft, velvety looking. You're probably saying, "Hands off, lady. He's mine."
Wow. Is this good. It is so real you can touch it. Dale and I are in awe of your talent. Congrats on getting in the show. They should be proud to have you.You are a superb portrait painter. Keep up the good work and good luck at the show.Silvia
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful portrait of your husband. And... he should be very happy with the hat!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your wonderful comments! You put a huge smile on my face! At the last minute we hit a snag and didn't make it to the reception! "Frank and Me" did NOT win an award. We will go down to see the show this week and I will let you know who the winners were with web or blog sites if available! I'm honored to have been juried in and your positive uplifting comments are ribbons to me! Just can't thank you enough!
ReplyDeleteReally nice Rosemary. I clicked on the image to blow it up and it is just full of information and little nuances.
ReplyDeleteGreat job.
Thanks, Gary! I'm never sure how to size the photo for the blog - glad you could enlarge this one! I really appreciate your comments.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. Beautifully rendered. He looks a little like John Lithgow!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely wonderful, Rosemary. Beautifully handled. Congratulations for getting it in the show!
