Ike for the Man Cave

24" x 24" Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Last fall A client requested a post humus portrait of a precious pug incorporated within an Ohio State theme as a Christmas gift for her husband and his man cave. Wow - Didn't this sound like a fun challenge?! It was! I visited the man cave - not your ordinary "man sanctuary" - this one is free standing and reached via a boardwalk extending from the house. Accent colors are red, black and grey and it's obvious this fellow is a Buckeye fan! His little buddy had a been a constant companion for eleven years and the man cave was just not the same without Ike's presence. Hopefully this portrait will be a loving reminder of the bond they shared.

I am thrilled they are happy with the portrait and appreciate the photos!

  1. What a wonderful painting, I am sure he was very pleased with his painting of his dear departed buddy. What a challenge you had, I love the paw seemingly to reach out of the picture, so cool. Well done!

  2. Rosemary, The painting of Ike is amazing. You did not just paint a pug. You captured "Ike" one look and you know it is him. It is his precious face no doubt. He was such a special part of our family and he was so special to Darryl. Darryl always said that you can love other dogs but you only have one dog in your lifetime that is "the dog" and Ike was his. He loves that painting and says that it is the perfect memorial to him. Thank you so much! You are an amazing artist. You can't imagine how special this painting is to us. Darryl will treasure this painting forever. I know I have already said Thank You! a million times but Thank You! The painting is perfect!!!!!

    1. Autumn! What a lovely surprise that you came here to comment on the painting! You and Darryl are ideal pet parents and Ike was a fortunate little fellow to have had you. I wish all commissions were as enjoyable as this one and that all clients were as pleasant to work with. I am thrilled both of you will treasure this memorial and thank you for giving me the opportunity to paint Ike. Your sweet compliments are soooo appreciated!

  5. Oh my gosh, Rosemary! This is absolutely fabulous! From man's best friend, to his pose, to the colors, to the story behind...I am just in awe and I know this had to bring a tear to this man's eyes. It is beautiful!

  6. Wow Sherry! You always make my day saying the nicest things! I would like to tell you he was warned when he opened the package, he might "tear up" - he protested - he's a macho fellow - but...I'm not supposed to know ...however...

  8. Rosemary, this is one of the best renditions of a dog painting, that I have ever seen. I love his paw going beyond the border of the painting.... This is more than a dog portrait...it's a novel telling more than 1 story.
