Our precious Jade is a shelter rescue.
We found each other just before Christmas almost five years ago. For my husband and me it was love at first
sight. She was so beautiful standing on
the green lawn with her long hair
blowing in the breeze, the sun giving
her a backlit glow. We were told she was
five years old so will celebrate her tenth birthday over the Christmas
holidays. So many times I have wondered
what she was like as a puppy - she is so very affectionate now - she must have
been a bundle of pure joy! Since we
have no puppy photos this is a just-for-fun fast attempt to paint her as she may have looked on a 6" x 6" gallery wrapped canvas.
Oh Rosemary! You've done a marvelous job painting Jade as a puppy! I must confess that I thought her ears were bleeding at first! LOL She is such a gorgeous girl!! I hope you have her with you for years to come.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry! The ears aren't quite as red in the painting as they are in the photo. I'm glad you like the painting and I hope we have her for a long, long time too. She's a sweetheart!
DeleteWow, Rosemary, to do this without a reference photo is amazing! What "life" you have in his eyes.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Pat! I looked at photos of our last two GS puppies - the features are similar - it's just the long hair that makes her different. Jade talks with her eyes so it makes me happy that you commented on them!
DeleteSuch a beautiful post and gorgeous painting of Jade as you would have pictured him as a puppy. I adopted my Cali from a shelter and I always wonder what kind of life she had for the first two years I didn't have her.! Again, you did an amazing job, Rosemary!!!
ReplyDeleteHilda, thanks so much! We are told our dogs "live in the present" but we can't help but wonder about their pasts. Jade had two homes before ours. Can't understand how they could have let her go! I'm so pleased you like the painting and wish you much happiness with Cali!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see a magnificent animal like this one....I wonder how could someone have given them up! Well, I have to think that maybe the previous owner died or something. I would never let a dog like this one go for any other reason! You painted a beautiful young portrait of your 'best friend'!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments, Celeste. The shelter told us Jade was surrendered because the owners lost their jobs and home - so sad for all since there were children involved who must have been heartbroken.
