One never knows what's just beyond or behind the fronds when scouting an island with a camera! This lonely rusting relic is tethered to a palm tree near the waters edge of Pine Island Sound. The actual setting has been only slightly altered by my brush. This piece is a study.
A 36" x 60" canvas sits on my easel where "My Fantasy Beach" is slowly developing in acrylic, and the old John Deere will again rest under a palm tree somewhere in the painting. This small study familiarized me with the character of the rusting seemingly forgotten bicycle. Wish we knew it's story and why faded silk (or plastic) roses are waiting in the basket ....for whom? We wonder...
There is such a luminescence to oil paintings that I often miss in acrylic works. This is just glowing, Rosemary. And how beautiful!! Truly stunning and I find myself wanting to be in this spot, looking out over the water, at the trees and the flowers and the bike. I'm seeing more bikes used as part of yard art landscaping here in Illinois. Looks like this property owner is doing the same...and they always have the flowers in the baskets like this.

DeleteBrightly painted bicycles holding live blooming flowers are found throughout downtown Punta Gorda, just across the river from Port Charlotte. I understand these are sponsored by various area businesses and are painted by inmates at Charlotte Correctional. However, two years ago they were not quite so common so this old John Deere seemed novel to us . And, of course, the painting needed a mysterious romantic title...:-)

ReplyDeleteThank you, Hilda! This one was fun. In the new painting the bicycle is twice as large and there will be live flowers blooming in the basket. Larger is so much easier! I'm glad you like the shadow!
