Ann Vasilik's Watercolor Demo

Thanks to artist Vickie Beck for these photos from our Blue Ridge Watermedia Society's October meeting. Please visit Ann's ">website to see many more of her fabulous watercolor paintings and read about her recent trip to Russia! Ann is an accomplished Asheville, N.C. artist and her demos are very popular with our group! She loves light and shadow and starts by transferring a detailed drawing from tracing paper onto 140 lb Arches. Her paintings begin with juicy washes. She uses four vaues alternating warm, cool, warm, cool across the painting...saving the white of the paper. Finishing touches were added via calligraphy setting out details to make the piece sing! Ann, thank you for sharing many tips with us as you performed your magic!

  2. I, too, love watercolors but the medium is so intimidating! It's a joy to watch Ann create these pieces. She makes it look easy and it's NOT!

  3. I've always love watching people who know what they are doing. I could never do a watercolor in the hour most demos take - can't even imagine doing that! Thanks for sharing. The Blue Ridge Watermedia - where do yall meet?

  4. It's magic watching a large white sheet of paper become a powerful painting! Ann had about two hours to complete this one. BRWS meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 6:45 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on Main Street, downtown Waynesville. We are working on a web page but don't have one as yet. Maybe soon...

  5. Congratulations, Rosemary, on your first place with an oil of your son. I just read the FWS online newsletter and had to visit your blog to say hello. Hope to see you this winter in Port Charlotte. Let's try to get together.
