Portrait of Karin Jurick
10 x 8 oil on canvas
Via her blog DSFDF Karin Jurick has brought together a family of artist bloggers who participate in ongoing challenges throughout the year. The year end challenge is a portrait swap with Karin pairing participants at random to paint each other's portraits. This is a huge undertaking involving many hours of her time. As a way to let Karin know how much she and these blog challenges mean to us, fellow artist and blogger, Jill Polsby, coordinated a project whereby each of us would paint Karin from the same photograph. She then had a book printed which has just been presented to Karin as a token of our gratitude. Here is a photo page with the 118 paintings contained in the book.
Everyone must have used their best brushes because the portraits are awesome with many interpretations of Karin's lovely face! Thank you Karin!
Jill, this was such a great idea! Congratulations and thank you! The book is wonderful!

And, how absolutely amazing is your portrait! One of THE best! Stands out from the rest. You were able to get all of K's features perfect. Not all were able to do that. I love the band around her head. The folds are beautifully and believably painted. As is the whole portrait. I love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments on mine. Warms the heart. Ruth
Thank you Ruth! Like you I wanted to do something a little "special" - the band was all I could come up with. I think the crown Susan Carlin placed on K's head was just the perfect touch as is your frame! Your comments are really appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI like your interpretation for the portrait, the light, and how you made it your own and it works!
ReplyDeletewow rosemary, this is awesome!!! i didnt see the artists names and i picked this one, as one of my favorites..you not only have a wonderful likeness of her.. and a awesome portrait of her, that any one would be proud to recieve.. but you made it your own, with the fun head band.. sweet lady, this is scrumptious!! you did yourself proud!!
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you, Maria! I think everyone put a little more of themselves into this project. I'm glad you like my submission.
ReplyDeleteCindi, I can so depend on you to put a wide smile on my face! So glad you like this interpretation! Thank you, thank you for your most appreciated comments!
ReplyDeleteRosemary, this was my favorite, also. It is very well done. Love the addition of the head band.
ReplyDeleteOh Wow Pat! You just made my evening! Painting Karin was intimidating at first but the photograph was a very good one and I really enjoyed trying to capture the light. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful portrait Rosemary. It is my favorite too. I think your composition is the most pleasing. The simple background with the value change compliments the portrait.
