24" x 12" Oil on Stretched Canvas
A spring photo shoot at the
Naples Botanical Gardens resulted in a disk full of reference photos and this attempt to paint water lilies with exaggerated water droplets and sharp value contrasts. As this one progressed, my husband teasingly referred to it as my "shower curtain piece" - Oh well....it's definitely not ala Monet!
Next maybe it would be fun to paint lotus blossoms with softer edges and a pastel palette. Wait - didn't someone do that already?
A beautiful painting regardless of what husband's think. You are super talented.Silvia
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by and for your comment! I appreciate you!
DeleteNothing against Monet or his genius, but I gotta (sorry) say that I like yours better. I love the richness of colors and the less blurry look. I think this is just truly exquisitely beautiful and nope. Doesn't look like a shower curtain to me.
ReplyDeleteOh My Goodness Sherry! Your comment put a big smile on my face! Thank you! Thank you!
DeleteBah! Husbands!!!
ReplyDelete"Ain't it the truth?" Ha! Couldn't do without them though! I'm fortunate Frank has a great eye and his critiques are usually spot on - maybe not this time :-)
DeleteThis is definitely a winner, Rosemary. I love the colors and love the water lilies. !!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilda - This one was fun and went in many directions before I finally put the brushes down. Water is a challenge and one that keeps bringing me back for more punishment!
DeleteThis is a lovely piece, Rosemary, with gorgeous colors and detail. I love that you bravely painted it "your way"--after all, what other way do any of us truly have? And trying to paint ala anybody else produces little of real interest. At least, that's my view, and I'm stickin' to it.
ReplyDeleteMary, you provided just the encouragement I need to paint things "my way"...Thank you! There may be more water lily paintings out there than any other subject. There are so many varieties the possibilities are endless!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful and very expressive. I love the intense colors. One of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteBy the way you can make a shower curtain for your husband with your painting on cafepress.com if he really wants one! Heh, heh.
Rosemary, I had to chuckle on the husband's remark; something mine would say. I love the painting, especially the 24x12 orientation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Pat about the format of the painting. It adds a wonderful interest to a subject that is usually portrayed in a landscape orientation. I love the moodiness your colors create - beautiful painting.
